Character Name: K1R0-658, Preferred Alias: Kiro
Race: Despite being a clear cyborg, he was also artificially created, which I'd assume would qualify him as being an android as well, so I'd classify him as all three.
Planet of Origin: Project Chimera originates on Mars, but all specimens, including this one, were made and/or activated on Kepler.
Spoken Languages: His default programming is English, but K1R0-658 is capable of learning by both normal and digital means.
Date of Birth: 2/24/2108 <- Date of activation for attempt 658
Gender: Male
Height: 6' 6"
Appearance description:
K1R0-658 has robotic eyes and a shaved head. Some robotics aren't covered by his skin. He also has a set of connectors on his left arm which allow him to plug in to computers and use them to download information. He has a skinny but muscular build. He is also very pale, but with a slight tan. Tattooed on his wrist is his designation number, K1R0-658. He mainly wears the pants and boots he escaped with.
Occupation: Escaped Top-Secret Corporate Experiment
Personality:
Seeing himself as belonging to neither blood nor metal, Kiro believes that most humans will never see him as anything other than a horrendous abomination undeserving any kind of chance, and that androids will refuse him as one of their own despite being artificial because he is still an organic. Humans will refuse him because he is unnatural, and androids will refuse him because he is human. He believes he is forever alone, doomed to never feel brotherhood of any kind. That being said, if someone were to show him kindness, human or android, he would be very slow to trust due to his first experiences with non-artificial humans. If he did choose to trust someone, his animalistic nature would be reason enough to assume his loyalty would be very similar to a wolf who has adopted a human into its pack.
At the same time though, that somewhat feral personality would most likely be a deterrent to most people who see him, if they aren't thrown off by his appearance first. Kiro himself was disturbed by his own reflection when he first saw it. In light of that, I shouldn't have to explain why he would be self-conscious about his looks. Being likely to give at least one person a panic attack, he prefers to always keep at least his head under a hood when he has to venture into public areas. All this being said, when he feels sufficiently provoked, especially by a stranger, he won't hesitate to defend himself, even if that means killing his attacker brutally. All things considered though, he can pretty much be summed up as a mix of a wild animal and a normal human. He's somewhat feral and animalistic, but still more than capable of reason and emotion.
Personal History:
As could be expected from such a project, many scientists were perplexed with both awe and concern when introduced to the child of the Refocilo project, known as Lazarus*. This included a fair number of Martian entrepreneurs, as well as about twenty scientists. This inspired them to take on a similar, yet different project. With advances in cloning and robotics, it was theorized that it might be possible to grow living tissue onto a layout of augmentations and other robotics. Despite the team being able to make a considerable number of vital calculations and complete a few experiments on the rusty planet, resources were far from sufficient to even begin cloning specimens, forcing them to relocate to Kepler where they were able to find what they needed, and even received a small amount of off-book support from two decently-wealthy Department of Defense officials who shared a similar background with most members of the project. The project now dubbed "Chimera" was more than able to be put into action. The first fifty-six attempts were cloned from unaltered human DNA, the bulk of which included spinal fluid quietly extracted from the dead and provided to the project by their DOD supporters. One of their off-the-books contributions. The functions they intended to merge these bodies with included extendable blades in the fore-arms and cybernetic eyes that would allow the subject to see in many different modes of vision, such as thermal, electromagnetic, T-ray*, and pre-scanned chemical signatures, paired with the ability to zoom similarly to a pair of binoculars, as well as a device near the brainstem which would translate the programming in computers of most kinds into something the human brain could understand. This augmentation would also be programmed with top-of-the-line hacking software which was capable of passing through most forms of digital security when connected by some means to the desired access point, which, in this case, would be one of the connectors on the specimen's left arm. One other system would allow the brain to analyze information at incredible speeds, and store it permanently and fully intact. Ambition composed the entire project. Unfortunately, the first few clones were grotesquely deformed. The suspected culprit was originally the systems the tissue was being grown onto, which would go through a great deal of alterations during the next fifty-seven attempts. After the failure of subject-69 it was realized that, while the components were partially responsible for the failures, the problem of the DNA itself was almost equal in urgency, being that it wasn't meant to cooperate with the mechanical components they intended to incorporate into the specimen's anatomy. The next six-hundred attempts would still have partial focus on the components, but mostly on modifying and splicing the DNA to accept them at all, even if it put the subject through intense pain. Nearly four-hundred attempts later, the issue of the augmentations resurfaced. With the DNA being freshly grown, it could only see the metallic objects as invading substances, threats. It was here that development of an alternative began. Eventually, a well-founded solution came about: Nanites that could lock themselves together to form a solid structure, as well as dispose of unwanted tissue growth, forcing the Chimera’s DNA to adapt and accept them. The nanites would also be able to repair the structures they were in by siphoning small amounts of carbon and iron to mix into steel by means that would be too inefficient for industrial uses. The resulting steel would be used to make more nanites to add on to the existing ones. Essentially, the nanites would act as a regenerative metal structured similarly to organic tissue, earning the nanites their name of “biosteel”. Although the subjects (partially) natural biology still did not fully accept the nanites as non-foreign, it didn’t fully reject it either, thus still causing relentless pain to the specimens. It had finally become clear just how far over the edge curiosity had pushed man.
After over nine years of trial-and-error, another attempt was made. At this point, almost all doubted a success, but carried on. While previous clones had formed perfectly over the systems, the cells themselves showed no signs of activity. This was intended for the design of the specimens, being that if the bodies had been simply dormant, they'd decay during transport. The only problem was sending a signal that would jolt them to life. To negate this issue, the project's biochemistry specialists had worked cooperatively with the engineers to create a device which would inject an 'activation' substance into the body, causing a chemical reaction to occur that would spur all life functions in a matter of minutes. The nanites themselves would be powered by the body, thus they would activate as well. As with the last few attempts, the organic tissues had formed perfectly over the systems. The only questions at this point were whether the activator would work, and if it did, how would the specimen hold up. As the chemical was injected, the entire team, joined by their supporters, looked on in suspense. For almost seven whole minutes they all watched, wondering what, if anything at all, was happening. In the sixth minute, the specimen's eyes shot open. Before long, he was struggling in discomfort, his facial expression showing that screams of agony were soon to follow. The bio-scans indicated that his pain wasn't coming from injury, but rather adapting to the unnatural, artificial, cell-like structures scattered throughout his body. After witnessing the disturbing display, the two resource providers determined that the project held too much risk for them to continue their support. They arranged to discontinue their partnership with the Chimera project as resource providers. However, they did agree to make one final contribution to the project: a cache of credits large enough for the project to sustain itself independently, allowing it to continue its progress without assistance. The only condition was that their former providers’ involvement in the project never came to light.
Specimen Chimera-K1R0-658 was transported to a secret holding facility in a secure part of District 1, fitted with an arsenal of security systems designed to keep threats out AND in. The project leaders also hand-picked possible candidates for a security team who, if their potential employers determined them as trustworthy, were told in full detail what they were guarding. The specimen was kept restrained at all times, never allowed to roam freely in even the most secure of rooms. However, despite being artificially created, Chimera was still a living being, capable of independent, cognitive, natural thought. And, naturally, no animal, human, cyborg, or otherwise, enjoys pain. As a result of constantly feeling as though he was being burned alive, thanks to his unnatural physiology, combined with always being kept nearly completely isolated, K1R0-658's adrenaline level was through the roof. The restraints eventually failed as a result of his adrenaline-enhanced struggle and allowed him to break free, at which point he slit a member of the team's throat and decapitated another. After he used his blades to cut the lock on the door and escaped the room he was in, he was faced with the security systems which included ceiling turrets and gas-dispersers. However, due to the project leaders' secrecy in regards to the true purpose of these systems, they were calibrated for normal threats. By using the device near his brain stem, he was able to plug in to and hack a nearby control panel and disable most of them, along with a great deal of the nearby lighting. The cameras, however, remained active. As the last line of defense, the security team was deployed with orders to kill specimen K1R0-658 only if absolutely necessary. Using the darkness to his advantage, specimen K1R0 was able to subdue all the guards with little difficulty. The footage that was recorded by the cameras showed the specimen to use brutal methods to incapacitate he guards. In one segment, he was shown to use his blades to rip into one guard's torso, leaving behind a blood-covered surrounding area. After escaping the facility, he moved quickly through the dim-lit areas of the now street-lit city. When he stopped to survey his surroundings, he grabbed a worn and tattered blanket out of a nearby dumpster. Due to K1R0 lacking any knowledge of the city streets, he climbed the tallest building he could find. After reaching the top and surveying his surroundings, he looked down to a nearby puddle of water, seeing every detail of himself for the first time. Moments later, the realization had reinforced the phantom-burns he already had. As he screamed in agony to the night, he realized the painful truth. The physical pain from his artificial being was only a small part of what caused his howls. The true cause behind his screams was a truth that neither man nor android would ever have to face for themselves. He was not human, and he was not a machine. He belonged to neither blood nor steel. He would never find a home where he fit among either people. He was forever a hybrid, an abomination... A Chimera of man and machine...
(Notes listed chronologically below. Areas in question are marked by a "*".)
(Lazarus was an actual player character at one point who, although being rendered irrelevant, was never voided, meaning he is still canon in the lore. Essentially, he was the end result of a project meant to find way to essentially turn corpses into a cross between human and android. Long story short, Lazarus was the only success. If needed for confirmation, the application for Lazarus by Zenosyne can be found in the accepted player applications part of the forums.)
(T-rays are essentially a virtually harmless version of x-rays. Yes this a real thing.)
(\/Other OOC Notes NOT marked above are listed below this line \/)
(My plan for this character is as follows: At the start of his rp, he will have escaped the facility just the night before AT MOST.)
(I included 'Kiro' as an alias in the name section despite there being no indication of him using that name in his backstory because it IS the name he will adopt at an appropriate point later in his rp.)
Medical Conditions/Disabilities:
Kiro is in constant pain from his organic tissues adapting to his biosteel augmentations. While the pain is typically tolerable, it occasionally flares up, sometimes even triggering symptoms common to Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder(PTSD). However, his case can involve repeating phrases spoken by the people who caused the events, such as his serial number and the name of the project he is a result of. Other triggers of his "adaptation pains" include but are not limited to use of certain augs which vary in the intensity they cause. Using other functions of his optical sensors will cause a moderate headache, while extending and retracting his arm blades will make the pain at least noticeable across his entire body. Also, Using the permanent storage will give him only smaller headache but using his hacking software will give him a significantly large one. However, he will not acknowledge the full intensity of the pain until his focus is diverted to it after the situation prior has dissipated, due to the post-event decrease in adrenaline. While this could be classified as either a weakness OR a strength, his DNA was edited to make it possible for him to have his augs, but if he were cloned without them, it would cause difficulties for him, meaning he has to be cloned WITH his augs. That being said, the augs are also the cause for the constant pain he suffers from. Another abnormality occurs when he loses a sufficient quantity of his biosteel nanites, such as his forearm blades breaking off. If this were to happen, K1R0-658 would experience cravings of iron-rich foods.
Goals:
To be accepted by society as a living thing rather than an abomination made out of corporate greed, as well as any relief from the constant pain he is forced to endure.
